He was born in Greece to Mr. Hovsep and Mrs. Vergin Yergatian on the 26th of May, 1926. After moving to Cyprus, he spent his youthful life in Limassol, attending the local school.
Coming from a poor family background, he started work as an electrician with different companies. By the time he had received the Lord as his personal Saviour, he made a hard decision. By faith, and with no money in his pocket, he took a boat to the States. He worked on the boat for his ticket with the intent of studying at Bob Jones University when he arrived in America.
After his graduation, he came back to Cyprus and was appointed a teaching position in the Larnaca American Academy.
He was married the 19th of July, 1958 to Miss Esther Pashguian from Beirut Lebanon. The Lord blessed them with four children: Sarah Grace now married to Craig Evins, Virginia married to Toros Pilibosian, Lily married to Steve Avanessian and Hovsep married to Cathleen Glass. Brother Levon was a devoted father and saw all his daughters and son grow in the grace of the Lord. The Lord also blessed the Yergatian family with seven grandchildren.
In 1965 he was led by the Lord to give up his teaching job in Larnaca and move to Limassol. He was a great help and an elder in the local Assembly. Brother Levon was a man who used to live by faith, depending on the Lord for His living.
He started the Logos Christian bookshop, which was a great help to many believers in their Christian growth. In 1973 he was led by the Lord to start a secondary school called LSEE, Logos School of English Education, a Christian school where the Lord was honoured. Brother Levon made this decision by faith, believing that the Lord would provide for the needs of the school. The school started with thirteen students. The first enrolled were Sarah Yergatian, Sarkis Chorbadjian, and Peter and John Ross. Now the school has over 250 students. Brother Levon was also a help to many students who wanted to continue their studies at Bob Jones University in America. Brother Levon was the founder and director of the school until 1989. Afterwards, he and his wife moved to America and settled in Arizona.
In addition to the bookshop and school, Brother Levon was also a leader in the Light and Salvation Correspondence courses that were a help to many in the island, teaching them the Word of God. He also started Christian summer camps at Cornos in 1963. They were later moved to Saitas. At the camps many young and old people accepted the Lord as their personal Saviour. The believers continued this work until 2005.
Brother Levon also organized an aid work for refugees, distributing mattresses and blankets to many who had lost their houses and had nowhere to stay after the Turkish invasion and occupation of 37% of the island.
He also had a burden for the people of Armenia, particularly after the tragic earthquake of 1988. He started an organization called Mission Armenia, which provided help to many sick and injured people. Nurses and christians visited homes and cared for the needy. Many were saved. In addition, a Gospel Hall was started in Gumri where his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Toros Pilibosian, are now missionaries, working full time.
The Lord called Brother Levon home in the early hours of the 28th of June, 2009. He now enjoys the presence of his Saviour, whom he loved and served all his life.
